Students and teachers from across the division virtually joined in to be part of an acknowledgement ceremony with First Nations Elders and Knowledge Keepers to commemorate and remember the experiences of Indigenous children who were part of Canada’s residential school system.

Sun West teacher and Indigenous Resource Support Person, Liz Zdunich, shared a lesson passed on by her mother, who attended residential schools: “You will never be sorry you were kind to anyone.” By sharing her mother’s story, Liz hopes that she, “has honoured those who attended residential schools and inspired [all] of us… to practice kindness in our schools.”
