Hey Distance Learning Students! It’s that time of year again – Book Club is starting up!
What is Book Club?
It’s when a group of awesome people read the same novel and discuss it as a group!
But I am reading so much in my other courses!
If you are taking a high school ELA course with the DLC, you will be able to substitute this novel for one of the novels in your course (with the exception of ELA A30 – sorry Canadian literature scholars!). Please contact your course instructor for more information on that.
What book are we reading?
This year we will be reading the novel 1984 by George Orwell.
Synopsis: 1984 is a dystopian novella by George Orwell published in 1949, which follows the life of Winston Smith, a low-ranking member of 'the Party', who is frustrated by the omnipresent eyes of the party, and its ominous ruler Big Brother. 'Big Brother' controls every aspect of people's lives.
When do we meet?
Typically, we meet three times for a discussion. These times will be roughly around mid-October, end of November and beginning of January. This gives students most of the semester to read the chosen novel. The meetings take place online and tend to be in the early afternoon, though that is subject to change with student’s schedules.
How do I sign up?
If you are interested contact DLChelp@sunwestsd.ca. Please sign up for book club by Sept 24th , 2021.
See you all there!
